What does the club do?
We are an active club involved in the sport of Waka Ama or Outrigger Canoe paddling, located at 85 Cross Road, Sulphur Point, Tauranga. Teams actively train several times a week year-round, and we run a Beginner Paddler/development programme over summer.
Social Club
We organise day trips for our club members and have been to Ōmokoroa and the Wairoa river. We also have trips planned to Maketu along the Mount beach, and possibly Bowentown.
Resources
There are enough paddles, jackets and other equipment for all the canoes. There are a number of paddlers within the club who actively assist with coaching and training.
Fundraising
Our main focus is paddling, so we only do a couple of fundraisers during the year. We run a popular regatta, the Ōmokoroa Dash in February, and carry out marshalling for local race events. Scroll down to see information relating to our latest project.
Competitions
We attend numerous regattas during the year, which range in distance from 500m sprints through to a 42km marathon. Each team/squad has their own focus, but often we will all try to attend nominated regattas.
We have had several club members represent us at the World Sprint Champs, which are held every two years.
Come and join us! See you on the water…! Hoea!

2025-2026 Fundraising Goal
As part of our strategic plan, we are adding three new W1 waka plus a new waka storage rack for our shed.
We're up and running with our new storage rack to support our existing waka and new Tai Manawa canoes for the club. A big thanks to TECT and Grassroots Trust and local firm Impact Engineering (https://www.pipefitters.co.nz/) who provided funding and labour for this amazing resource for our club. Ngā mihi nui.
For the remainder ($5000), we have options for our membership to support this project via either volunteering, or making a donation, or both.
