Entering a Regatta
REGATTA TIPS
- Dress to the conditions, nothing worse then being too cold or too hot
- Drink packs, anything over 10-12km, you need to start thinking about drinking. If you feel thirsty at the end of a race, then that's a good indicator you should have been drinking during the race.
- Nutrition, depending on the length of the race, you can also use energy gels, etc, or you may just put something in your drink pack.
- Life Jackets, if you are going to wear one on the day, make sure you pick one that fits you before we pack the canoes, take that one with you, it is yours for the day.
- Practice at training, don't try and learn those skills on race day.
- There is a bit of an art to using a drink pack or eating an energy gel without stopping. Practice at training, that's what training is for.
- Same with life jackets, there is nothing worse then getting a rash during a race from something you are not used too, if you are going to race in one, then wear it at training too, so you get used to it.
